This is an introductory course in thermodynamics that provides a solid background for further study in the thermo-fluids area. In the later sections of the course, there is some overlap with MECH 330; topics that are introduced in this course are covered in greater detail in MECH 330.
Assignments are to be handed in at the MECH 230 assignment drop box on the third floor of McLaughlin Hall. You have until they lock the doors to hand in the assignment on the due date. Marked assignments will be left in the assignment return box usually by the following week. Due to the resources available, only one question of each assignment will be marked. The assignment problems have been carefully selected to reinforce the key points of the lectures, and one can expect that they will fairly represent the contents of the mid-term and exam. Thus, students are strongly recommended to challenge themselves with the assignments. Since the tutorial questions will usually resemble assignment questions, tutorial participation is also strongly recommended. NOTE: No tutorial or assignment for week 1.

Exams will be closed book however a single 8.5"x11" formula sheet (single
side for the quizes and both sides for the final) will be permitted.
Fundamentals of Engineering Thermodynamics 7th Edition by Moran & Shapiro.
(older textbook versions are fine for content but assignment questions taken from the end of the chapter will not match up)
