Energetics & Mechanics of Locomotion

Dr. Q. LiRoom 301A, McLaughlin 533-3191

Course Description

Walking is a vital means of human locomotion. Althought a most common daily activity, there is a lot of questions we do not fully understand. In this course, we will cover different aspects of human locomotion including kinematics, kinetics and energetics. Techniques for analysing the locomtion mechanics and energetics will be presented. Examples from previous literature on mechanics and energetics will be studied to demonstrate the techniques. In the last part of the course, biomechanical devices that harvest energy during walking and assist walking will be discussed.
