Exciting new opportunity for 1st Year Engineering students
- Limited places available
- Affordable - Only $425 incl. materials
Over the course of the 3.5 days the student will get hands on experience in the McLauhghlin Hall Machine Shop. Participants will machine and fabricate 3 different projects: a plumb bob, a trinket box and a can crusher.
On the morning of the first day, we will start the program with introductions to the machine shop staff and a safety orientation focused on the equipment the student will use during the course. Participants will be broken up into smaller working groups for the remainder of the course and dive into the projects. We will use a "shotgun" style start where each group will begin at a different work station. Remember to wear your CSA approved safety boots and safety glasses!
Participants will then progress thru the machining and fabrication process at their own speed using shop equipment including the lathe, milling machine, waterjet and welders. After completion of each stage the staff will assist with assembly.
We have reserved time on Friday morning for trouble shooting and fine-tuning of the final products. The course will close with a fun "performance evaluation" of the finished products.
NOTE:
- Proper personal protective equipment is required, including CSA approved work boots and safety glasses.
- Enrolment is limited to 24 and is on a first come, first served basis.
