P.H. Oosthuizen

The Computational Heat Transfer Laboratory operates under the direction of Professor Oosthuizen and is located in McLaughlin Hall. Studies conducted in the Computational Heat Transfer Laboratory include various experimental studies of solidification and melting heat transfer, flow visualization studies of complex free convective flow, studies involving the measurements of free (or natural) convective heat transfer rates and studies of heat transfer during frost development.

The experimental work in this laboratory is also supported by numerical work using programs based on the finite element method. Both in-house and commercial software is used - the laboratory houses computers that can be used for this work. The laboratory is also supported by modern instrumentation including data acquisition systems and optical measuring systems.
